29 Delhi Police officers and personnel conferred medals on R-Day-eve

Among the 29 police personnel, nine were conferred gallantry awards, including one Posthumous, three President’s Medal for Distinguished Service, and 17 Medals for Meritorious Service.

In recognition to their dedication to their service and the force, displaying utmost valour, 29 officers and personnel of the Delhi Police have been conferred medals on the national festival of 75th Republic Day.

Among the 29 police personnel, nine were conferred gallantry awards, including one Posthumous, three President’s Medal for Distinguished Service, and 17 Medals for Meritorious Service.

The recipients of the Medal for Gallantry include late Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Shambhu Dayal Meena, Inspector Manmeet Malik, ASI Rajeev Kumar, ACP Rahul Vikram, Inspector Vikram Dahiya, Inspector Vinay Pal, Sub- Inspector Mohd Akmal Khan, Head Constable Sikander Khan and Inspector Vikram Sangwan.

Late ASI Shambhu Dayal displayed the utmost courage and valour on January 4, 2023, while responding to a threat and robbery call made by a woman at the Mayapuri police station. As he reached the scene of the crime, the brave heart identified the alleged thief and nabbed the criminal, who later took out a knife and attacked Meena. But the officer did not let off the accused until the backup arrived.

Meena was rushed to a hospital on January 8 but succumbed to the injuries.

Those who have been conferred with the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service include Lalit Mohan Negi, ACP, Hridaya Bhushan ACP, and SI Ishwar Singh.

ACP LM Negi has made a commendable contribution to the force that includes overseeing 35 encounter operations, and the elimination of 49 terrorists, including 11 Pakistani extremists and other dreaded gangsters, while ACP Hridaya Bhushan, has also effected the arrest of terrorists of different outfits, several underworld, and interstate criminals and played important role in the recovery of more than a huge cache of illegal arms and ammunition, a huge quantity of Heroin/Methamphetamine, lakhs of FICN, explosive items including IED’s, hand grenades, etc.

The 17 recipients of Medals for Meritorious Service (MSM) include DCP Manishi Chandra, who held various important responsibilities including the portfolio of  DCP counter intelligence when it was introduced for the first time, while the officer is also officiating DCP of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit of the Special Cell, while he is also working towards capacity up-gradation and logistic requirements as per National Security Guard’s recommendations.

Chandra has also played a very important role in terms of technical aspects keeping in view the present times that have new challenges in terms of crimes and threats.

Other officers who have received MSMs also include several DCPs, ACPs, Inspectors, SIs, and ASIs who have displayed valor and contributed immensely towards their duties. Notably, two of the woman officers are also in the list of the recipients of the MSMs including ACP Kusum Sharma and ACP Meenaxi.

Ms Kusum was commended for the arrest of the accused and recovery of 5 Kg opium in a case of PS Jankpuri in 1991, and while posted at CAW Cell she handled a large number of complaints of matrimonial disputes and maximum complaints handled by her were settled in reconciliation
